a healthy dose of
information

Welcome to the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) Web site.

The Department of Health works to protect and improve the health of people in Washington State. Our department's dedicated professionals carry out that mission every day through a wide range of essential programs and activities that touch the lives of everyone in our state.

Public health is community health. Disease prevention and health promotion programs protect entire communities--not just individuals--from communicable diseases, epidemics, and contaminated food and water. All Washington citizens benefit from things like safe water, adequate waste treatment, safe food and restaurants, infectious disease control, immunized children, and emergency preparedness.

The Department of Health plays a vital role in these efforts, collaborating with local health departments/districts, agencies and organizations throughout the state.

Our Website's theme is a healthy dose of information, and that's just what we'll try to provide. In this site, you'll find information on current issues impacting public health, news about our programs, and a wealth of other resources.

We invite you to browse through these pages and learn more about how our department works with your community, in your community and for your community. Together, we can all help to ensure a safer and healthier Washington State.
