The Orientation Process for each functional role describes an integrated approach to orientation that includes both self-directed learning and opportunities to get support and technical assistance through peers, mentors, and key contacts.

This site provides the web-based component of the orientation process. The resources and orientation tools included on this site are intended for self-directed information access and learning.
The Resources section includes links to frequently used public health resources that are available on the Web.

The Orientation Tools provide a framework and resources for self-directed learning. The tools are competency-based. The competencies important to your role are organized within Competency Domains. The competency domains serve as the basis for the Orientation Tools, which allow you to:

  • explore competencies important to your role;

  • assess your learning needs, develop a plan for your orientation and identify priorities for knowledge and skill development through use a self assessment tool;

  • access learning objectives that state what you need to learn to gain a particular knowledge or skill set;

  • access a Learning Resource Toolkit that can help you learn about your role, public health practice, and the public health system in Washington State.

You do not have to complete one section before moving to another, but it is recommended that you review the orientation process steps and complete the self-assessment tool before moving into the other components of this site.
