The authorization for local health departments to conduct child death reviews lies in statute (RCW 70.05.150). There are currently 17 county CDR teams that conduct reviews for child residents of those counties. All reviews involve a multi-disciplinary team and are confidential in nature. Team composition varies from community to community but each has core members including public health, Child Protective Services, Medical Examiner/Coroner, medical/emergency provider, social services/mental health, prosecutor, and law enforcement. Teams may also have representatives from other community groups, such as the faith community, fire and EMS, injury prevention, tribes, schools, and military. The frequency of meetings of each team varies depending on the number of deaths to review and the availability of team members. Local Team Contact Information
