Washington State HIV/AID Quarterly Surveillance Report The first case of AIDS in Washington State was diagnosed in 1982. The Washington State Department of Health estimates that the number of people living with HIV disease inside the state is currently (during January-March 2008) between 11,000 and 12,000. As of December 2007, there were 10,016 people reported to have HIV or AIDS in Washington. Detailed information by year of diagnosis, gender, risk factor, county of residence, and more is available by viewing the Washington State HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report. The HIV/AIDS Epidemiology Report, jointly produced by the Washington State Department of Health and Public Health - Seattle & King County, is now available on the Public Health Seattle and King County website. Statistics and articles cover the epidemiology of HIV and AIDS in Seattle-King County and Washington State with comparisons to national data. Each issue also includes reports about HIV prevention or HIV care services and articles from the Seattle-based adult and pediatric HIV/AIDS clinical trials units and the HIV Vaccine Evaluation Unit. The cumulative estimated number of diagnoses of AIDS through 2005 in the United States and dependent areas was 988,376. The cumulative estimated number of deaths of persons with AIDS in the United States and dependent areas through 2005 was 550,394. Between 1,039,000 and 1,185,000 people in the U.S. are estimated to be infected with HIV with 24%-27% undiagnosed and unaware of their infection..
