This list includes trainings conducted and/or hosted by the Washington State Department of Health (DOH).  In addition, information about other training centers providing training in Washington State is included for additional training opportunities.  Click on the link to these training centers to find out more about trainings they have available. 

Center for Health Training (CHT)

Northwest AIDS Education and Training Center (NW AETC)

    Washington State Department of Health 

  • HIV Essentials for Prevention Workers
    3-day comprehensive information-based course covering HIV prevention topics ranging from basic HIV to human behavior change, drug use, alcohol, mental illness, and abuse.  Contact: Suzanne Hidde (360) 236-3389; suzanne.hidde@doh.wa.gov
     

  • HIV Partner Counseling and Notification
    Training Scheduled depending on need.  Date and location TBD.  3-day comprehensive skills-based course covering partner elicitation, field work, and confidentiality in partner notification services.  This course is required for publicly funded program staff conducting partner notification in Washington State.  Contact Ann Bustamante (360) 236-3389; ann.bustamante@doh.wa.gov
     

  • HIV Prevention Counseling
    Trainings scheduled throughout the year, across Washington State.  3-day skills-based training of a six step prevention counseling model for use with HIV testing.  This training is required for publicly funded program staff conducting HIV testing and counseling in Washington State.  Contact Suzanne Hidde (360) 236-3389; suzanne.hidde@doh.wa.gov

    The California STD/HIV Prevention Training Center is an integral part of a national network of training centers offering dynamic continuing education in clinical, behavioral interventions, partner services and program support courses that are designed to enhance the STD/HIV knowledge and skills of medical, health, and community professionals.   • STD Clinical Intensive Continuing Education Module

  • Chlamydia Case-Based Training

  • National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers Online STD Case Series
    This web-based case series is designed for practicing clinicians who diagnose, treat, and manage patients with, or at risk for, STDs.  The series includes case presentations of common STD-related syndromes with a guided, interactive process to evaluate each case, arrive at a diagnosis, and provide recommended treatment.  CME and CNE credit is available.

  • CDC Self-Study STD Modules for Clinicians
    This site offers seven web-based educational modules, each based on a specific STD topic.  Each module is considered  to be an individual course.  The target audience is clinicians in primary care settings who desire a basic introduction to STD diagnosis and management.

  • The online Practitioner’s Handbook for the Management of Sexually Transmitted Disease is available at

  • Prevention and Management of STDs in Men Who Have Sex with Men:  A Toolkit for Clinicians is designed to assist clinicians in supporting STD prevention efforts among men who have sex with men.  To order a copy of the toolkit, contact the STD/HIV Prevention Training Center of New England at 617-983-6945.
     

  • The Ready-to-Use STD Curriculum for Clinical Educators targets faculty in clinical education programs, including those programs that train advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, and physicians.  This product can be found at http://www2.cdc.gov/stdtraining/ready-to-use/ or through the STD training homepage.
