MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) Vaccine

The MMR vaccine protects against measles, mumps, and rubella. The vaccines for these diseases are usually given as combination vaccine of  live weakened viruses.

Doses of MMR vaccine is routinely given:

• Between ages 12 and 15 months and is required for a child (aged 16 months and older) entering a child care or school.
• Before the start of the kindergarten.

Washington State is currently supplying:

• Merck MMR vaccine, brand name, MMRII. The vaccine has typical availability.
• Merck combination vaccine for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (MMRV), brand name, ProQuad, is not available due to manufacturer shortage. It is estimated supply will resume in 2008. MMRV orders will not be accepted until further notice. The vaccine is shipped directly to providers from the manufacturer. Allow a minimum of 14 business days for delivery. MMRV vaccine must be placed in the freezer (5° Fahrenheit or colder) immediately following delivery.
