Regional Genetic Clinics

We support several genetics clinics throughout Washington State.  This link includes information about genetic services, who should have a genetics consultation, and a listing of Regional Genetics Clinics in Washington.

Genetics Education

We help a variety of audiences learn and understand more about genetics and issues that have arisen due to recent discoveries in the field of genetics.  Examples include:

Cystic Fibrosis Seminar:  We organized a seminar for genetic services providers to help them understand more about cystic fibrosis screening for couples who are planning a pregnancy or who are pregnant.

Training for Adoption Workers: We are assisting adoption workers in understanding how to take a genetic family history.  We are developing pamphlets for adoptive parents about genetics.

Early Hearing Loss Detection, Diagnosis, and Intervention (EHDDI)

Working to increase:

  • The number of newborns screened for hearing loss

  •  The number of infants diagnosed by 3 months of age

  •  The number of infants enrolled in early intervention by 6 months of age

Partnered with Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center and Northwest Lion’s Foundation for Sight & Hearing.

Living Room Forums

The Washington State Department of the Health is conducting a series of Living Room Forums - facilitated informal discussions among Washington residents about various genetics issues that are being raised due to rapid advances in genetics.

The goal of these forums is to better understand how state residents view advances in medical genetics and the ethical and societal issues they raise.
