Source Water Assessment Program

Help screen: How to use the interactive GIS Map

Below are screen shots of what you will see when you access the "SWAP Interactive GIS Map." Scroll down and review the instructions for using the GIS Map. These are screen shots and you will not be able to click to activate the buttons. They are just for you to review.

New search button

NEW SEARCH opens the Find Water Systems form so that a new selection can be made.

Select the county to view from county selector drop down box and choose to see a map of the county you've selected. Show map of state will allow you to view entire state.

 

Browse list of water systems will run a query according to your input. If you know a specific water system, you may enter only the system ID number or a portion of it's name to find the system. A report will generate showing all the matches found for that system. Click Map to go to the map of that system like the one at the top of this help page. If you click Inventory a report will generate like the one below.

Zoom In Button

ZOOM IN on the map by selecting the Zoom In tool and then left mouse click on the map. To zoom in faster use the bar in the center of the page.

Zoom out button

ZOOM OUT on the map by selecting the Zoom Out button and then left mouse click on the map. To Zoom out faster, use the bar in the center of the page.

Recenter button

RE-CENTER the map by selecting the RE-CENTER button and then left-click on the map near what you would like to see in the center. The map will be centered on the point you clicked.

Identify button

Use the IDENTIFY tool to get more information about a point on the map. The information will appear to the left of the map in a format similar to below:

Buffer point button
 

The BUFFER POINT returns the water system sources within 1000 feet of the point clicked. In the example below, a buffer point was added to the map. it is indicated by a yellow circle. The information in the left hand column is updated to display the source(s) within the buffer area.

Layers can be turned on and off by going back to the LAYERS screen. The buffered results will remain until a new buffer point is selected. To go back to the buffered results after changing the layers, simply click on the ID RESULTS button. If you don't see the expected results, try the button to refresh the map.

When you are ready to remove the buffer point, click on the button.

Log out button

LOG OUT of current session and go back to starting map page.

Feedback button

FEEDBACK opens a form like the image below, allowing an e-mail to be sent back to the Office of Drinking Water.

Layers button

The LAYERS button will return you to the layer selection screen. Once changes are made, select the button to refresh the map view to update changes to the map. Zoom in if the checkbox is not available and the Zoom in to view layer symbol is shown in order to see that layer.

Legend button

LEGEND describes the markings on the map, You can go back and forth between Legend, Layers, and ID results as much as you like. The map will not update until is clicked.

ID Results button

ID RESULTS will provide results will provide information like the following. ID Results can be used in conjunction with the buffer point tool to identify nearby sources (those within 1000' of point selected.).

Line

By selecting the Redraw Map button the map will refresh itself and redraw all the layers. This button will not change the visible extent of the map.

This button will also submit search engine queries.

Use this when you change the map size to update the map size after you have made your change in the drop-down box to the right of the words Adjust map size:
