Fish consumption advisories updated for Lake Roosevelt and Spokane River

Advice balances health benefits of eating fish with choices that avoid contaminants

 

OLYMPIA - State health officials are adding species and meal limits to the fish consumption advisories on Lake Roosevelt and the Spokane River. The additional recommendations are based on new fish tissue testing and evaluation. The fish advisories remain in effect and are expanding due to the additional data

Health Consultation For Review and Public Comment

Comment period April 30 to May 30, 2008

 

The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has completed a draft Health Consultation for public review and comment: "Upper Columbia River Site, Lake Roosevelt Non-Tribal Fish Exposure, Northeast, Washington" (versions in Word or pdf).  DOH conducted the evaluation to determine if people were being exposed to environmental contaminants, and whether that exposure could cause harmful health effects.  The draft health consultation was prepared to summarize the findings of DOH's evaluation.  The consultation includes several components: 

  • A background including a brief history of the site, pages 8-11.
  • A discussion of exposure and possible health effects, pages 11-28.
  • Conclusions about the site’s impact on public health, page 29.
  • Recommendations to improve public health, pages 29-30.
  • Public Health Action Plan, page 30.
