Potential Job Openings

Check box image Generally, the Office of Radiation Protection has one or more openings for health physicists during a year. Vacancies may occur in Tumwater, Richland, or Spokane. To be considered for one of these openings, individuals must be on the state employment register for the particular job class. The entry level positions are RADIATION HEALTH PHYSICIST 1 and RADIATION HEALTH PHYSICIST 2.  There are also occasional openings for RADIATION HEALTH PHYSICIST 3.   To be placed on a register, you must send a completed Washington State job application to the Department of Personnel when the register is open.

You may download the basic APPLICATION FORM from the Department of Personnel. When the registers are open, you will be required to answer questions covering your experience and training. The evaluation of these test questions will determine your score. To find out if the registers for the Radiation health Physicist series are open, check the Open Job Listings under the career heading of "Architecture, Engineering, Planning & Right of Way". Follow the instructions found there to submit the application and your response to the test questions. The Department of Personnel will mail your score to you, but cannot tell you your ranking on the list of job applicants.

Openings may occur and be filled at any time so it is essential for you to be on the register already in order to be considered for future employment. For further information, please contact one of the section managers.
